Built to be repaired

Sub-Zero is a different discipline.

Most refrigerators are built to be replaced after a decade. Sub-Zero is built to be serviced for twenty years or more — and it is unforgiving of guesswork. A technician who treats it like a Whirlpool misses the second sealed system, the top condenser, and the diagnostic codes. We do not.

  • Two compressors. Refrigerator and freezer run separately, so we repair the failed side only.
  • Top-mounted condenser. Cleaned on every visit — it is the root of most Sub-Zero trouble.
  • Serviced in place. Panels off carefully, floors covered, cabinetry untouched.

What we see most

Six Sub-Zero problems we fix every week.

Dirty condenser

The biggest cause of Sub-Zero trouble. A clogged top condenser overheats both compressors and trips the Vacuum Condenser alert. We clean it on every visit.

One side warm, other fine

A sealed-system leak or weak compressor on one side only. On dual-compressor units we service just the affected side.

Frost, or a warm fridge with a cold coil

Evaporator fan or defrost failure. Common on freezer compartments that ice up behind the back panel.

Sagging doors and hard gaskets

Heavy panel fronts sag hinges over the years and gaskets harden. We realign, shim, and replace seals.

No ice

Ice maker assembly, fill valve, or the water filter housing on newer units.

Control board or display (600 series)

Late-1990s and 2000s electronic controls are a known weak point. Parts are still available.

What the panel is telling you

Sub-Zero indicators, decoded.

Codes differ across series. We confirm every indicator with a live diagnostic before quoting. Owner guidance: subzero-wolf.com.

Tell us the series and the indicator you are seeing. We arrive with the diagnostic tools and the right parts, and you approve the flat rate before we start.

Every series

Series we service.

  • Classic (formerly Built-In): side-by-side, over-and-under, French door — BI-36, BI-42, BI-48
  • Designer (formerly Integrated): panel-ready columns and drawers
  • PRO 36 and PRO 48, including glass-door
  • Legacy 500, 600, and 700 series
  • Undercounter, drawers, beverage centers, wine storage, ice makers

We also service Viking, Thermador, Miele, and Liebherr built-ins with the same care.

What it costs

Repair is always cheaper than replacement.

A new Sub-Zero built-in runs well into five figures before cabinetry work. Even a compressor replacement on one side is a fraction of that and buys many more years. Condenser cleaning, fans, sensors, gaskets, and ice makers are routine repairs at ordinary prices.

The only Sub-Zero we advise replacing is one with both sealed systems gone and parts no longer available. That is rare.

Sub-Zero parts cost more than mass-market parts. You get the flat rate, part included, before we start.

Good to know

Sub-Zero repair questions.

We also repair KitchenAid built-ins and freestanding units from Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, and Kenmore. Sub-Zero service concentrates in McLean, Great Falls, Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax, and reaches Woodbridge, Loudoun, and Prince William.

Are you a Sub-Zero factory-certified service provider?

We are an independent repair company with technicians trained on Sub-Zero platforms. For in-warranty units, contact Sub-Zero for factory service first. For out-of-warranty units, we offer faster scheduling and flat-rate pricing.

What does the Vacuum Condenser light mean?

The unit is asking for its condenser to be cleaned. Ignore it and the compressors run hot. We clean it and reset the indicator. If it returns within weeks, the condenser fan is suspect.

My freezer side works but the refrigerator side is warm. Is it the whole unit?

No. Full-size Sub-Zeros have separate compressors and sealed systems. We diagnose and repair the refrigerator side only.

Can you get parts for a 1990s 500 series?

Frequently, yes. Sub-Zero supports its units far longer than most brands. We check availability before you commit to anything.

Do you protect cabinetry and floors during the repair?

Yes. Built-ins are serviced in place wherever possible, with panels removed carefully and floors covered when the unit must be rolled out.
