KitchenAid Refrigerator Repair in Northern Virginia
KitchenAid not cooling, ice maker stalled, or Preserva system throwing a fault? Freestanding French door, counter-depth, and built-in models — plus JennAir — diagnosed, quoted at a flat rate, and usually fixed in one visit.
Premium platform, premium parts
KitchenAid repair means knowing the Preserva system.
KitchenAid is Whirlpool’s premium brand. Its signature Preserva Food Care System runs two evaporators — one for the fridge, one for the freezer — with independent control. It keeps produce better than a single-evaporator design, and it means twice the fans, twice the sensors, and confusing symptoms when one loop fails while the other keeps working.
- Two cooling loops. Fridge warm and freezer fine is a contained, fixable fault on the fresh-food loop.
- Built-ins serviced in place. Custom panels off carefully, top-mount condenser cleaned, cabinetry untouched.
- JennAir too. Same Whirlpool luxury platform, same technicians, same flat-rate pricing.

What we see most
Six KitchenAid problems we fix every week.
Fridge warm, freezer fine
On dual-evaporator models: the fresh-food evaporator fan, a defrost fault on that loop, or a stuck valve. Contained to one side and fixable.
Both sides warm, compressor running hot
Condenser fan, or a blocked top-mount condenser on built-ins. Cleaned on every visit — a dirty one is the leading cause of premature compressor wear.
Ice maker not producing
In-door and freezer-mounted ice makers share Whirlpool’s modular design; built-ins use a separate ice compartment with its own evaporator that can frost over.
Slow dispenser, or water under the crispers
Filter, inlet valve, or a kinked line inside the door — or a clogged defrost drain on the fresh-food evaporator.
Temperatures swing, display resets
The main control board that manages both cooling loops. We confirm it before replacing it.
Door not closing on a panel-ready model
Heavy custom panels sag hinges over time and gaskets harden. We realign, shim, and replace seals.
Symptom to cause
KitchenAid not cooling: what the pattern tells us.
| What you notice | Most likely cause | Usual repair |
|---|---|---|
| Fridge warm, freezer fine (dual evaporator) | Fresh-food evaporator fan, defrost fault on that loop, or stuck valve | Replace fan or defrost part, test valve |
| Freezer warm, fridge fine | Freezer evaporator fan or defrost failure | Replace fan or defrost part |
| Both warm, compressor running hot | Condenser fan or blocked top-mount condenser | Replace fan, clean condenser |
| Both warm, compressor silent | Start relay, inverter, or compressor | Test and replace the failed part |
| Temperatures swing, display resets | Main control board | Replace board |
| Warm spots on one side of a built-in | Door gasket or a sagging door on a heavy panel | Replace gasket, adjust hinge |
KitchenAid displays are plain-spoken: a flashing temperature means a compartment ran warm, PO means a power outage, a filter icon means the filter is due. We confirm everything with a live diagnostic before quoting. Owner resources: kitchenaid.com.

What it costs
Nearly always worth repairing.
A freestanding KitchenAid costs two to three times a basic refrigerator, and a built-in several times that before installation. Against those numbers, even a control board or a compressor is a sound investment on a unit under fifteen years old. Fans, sensors, defrost parts, gaskets, and ice makers are routine one-visit repairs at ordinary prices.

Good to know
KitchenAid repair questions.
We also repair Sub-Zero and other luxury built-ins, plus Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, GE, Frigidaire, and Kenmore. KitchenAid repair is available throughout Northern Virginia, including Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, and Woodbridge — full list on our service areas page.
Do you remove and reinstall custom cabinet panels?
Yes. We remove panels when needed for access and reinstall them aligned. Let us know it is panel-ready when you book so we schedule the extra time.
Why does only the fridge section of my KitchenAid run warm?
On Preserva dual-evaporator models, the fresh-food side has its own evaporator and fan. If that loop fails, the freezer keeps working. It is a contained, fixable fault.
How often should the condenser on a built-in be cleaned?
Every six to twelve months. The top-mount condenser on KitchenAid built-ins collects dust fast and a dirty one is the leading cause of overheating and premature compressor wear.
Is JennAir the same as KitchenAid?
Both are Whirlpool luxury brands and share many platforms and parts. We service both with the same technicians.
Can you repair a twenty-year-old KitchenAid built-in?
Often yes. Parts availability is the deciding factor, and we check it before you commit to anything.
